General Summary:
Administers anesthesia to all age specific patients having a wide variety of surgical, obstetric, or diagnostic procedures in collaboration with an anesthesiologist. Provides airway management and trauma services on a 24-hour basis.
Responsibilities:
1. Collects and prepares materials needed for a specific procedure within 15 minutes of completion of prior case. Performs daily equipment checks to assure equipment is functioning properly.
2. For each procedure, performs a thorough pre-anesthesia assessment and evaluation of patient and accompanying chart; ensures that appropriate tests have been completed and findings/results are documented on patients chart.
3. Obtains and verifies that an informed consent has been obtained by a qualified provider; ensures all results are logged on patients chart. Participates in full-stop and time-out procedures.
4. Formulates and documents a patient-specific plan for anesthesia care, based on pre-anesthetic assessment, problem analysis, anticipated surgical procedure, current anesthesia principles, and anesthetic recommendations. Communicates and discusses these plan results with the attending anesthesiologist through specific discussion for each patient.
5. During procedure, induce and maintain anesthesia at required levels, as defined by patient specific plan, and in accordance with defined standards.
6. Conduct continuous and vigilant clinical observation of the patients physiologic condition as appropriate for the type of anesthesia used. Document all activity, including omission of any standard and the reason stated on the patient's anesthesia record.
7. Notify attending anesthesiologist at the start and completion of every case and if patient-specific plan of anesthesia is altered before or during a procedure.
8. Audit patients€™s medical record to assure complete documentation of pertinent information. Include documentation of all interventions and patient responses.
9. Assess patients€™s status to determine when safe to transfer the responsibility of care to other qualified providers. Complete discharge documentation and record hand-off of the patient on the anesthesia record.
10. Maintains Infection Prevention standards
11. All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

  • Education: Master Degree Nurse Anesthesia Practice
  • Credential(s): Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists; Registered Nurse; Advanced Practice Registered Nurse; Basic Life Support
  • Experience: No Experience Required
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
  • Education: Doctorate Degree Nurse Anesthesia Practice
  • Credential(s):
  • Experience: Two (2) or more years' experience as a CRNA; Active member of the AANA, DANA and DNA.
