Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide direct patient care under general supervision of licensed personnel, maintaining and operating specialized equipment, and performing any other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care and physician service.

  1. Assist provider in seeing patients; gather and record vital signs and medical histories, prepare patients for examination, draw blood, initiate toxicology screens, and administer medications as directed.
  2. Record information in electronic medical records (EHR) database or paper chart and gather all essential components from demographic sheets/consents/credit policies/charge slips, updates medication, and history.
  3. Complete necessary paperwork as ordered by provider including printing prescriptions, work restrictions, referrals, and scheduling diagnostic testing.
  4. Participate in the correct scheduling of patients, appropriate communication with the scheduling department.
  5. Assist in pre/post procedural areas by preparing patient for procedure; correctly identifying patient, procedure to be performed, and procedure site. Updates and confirms medication and allergy profiles, completes appropriate clinical lab work (glucose reading, INR, pregnancy test, toxicology screen as indicated), completes and documents vital signs, pain status and enters new information or health concerns of patient. Reinforces pre and post op teaching completed by RN.
  6. Obtain and document vitals and data regarding modified Aldrete and discharge readiness scores. Assist in discharge of patient with appropriate paperwork.
  7. Assist in the performance of chart review on daily basis to ensure completeness and accuracy of patient documentation.
  8. Assist in keeping ASC orderly and follows appropriate cleaning protocols.
  9. Act as scribe for provider recording patient information as dictated, when requested.
  10. Help support Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement initiatives as a part of the team.
  11. Facilitate communication to physician and health care provider regarding questions about treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians' instructions to patients.
  12. Always participate and maintain safety and dignity of patient.
  13. In addition, have demonstrated competency and routinely perform duties in at least one of the following:
    1. Surgical: Apply and monitor principles of aseptic technique throughout intra-operative period. Assist provider by having all necessary equipment available and ready. Efficiently "turn over" rooms between patients following proper cleaning technique. Communicate all breaches of aseptic technique immediately to the provider and circulating nurse.
      1. C-Arm:Complete and maintain appropriate radiation training and competencies. Assist in monitoring radiation methods that expose all staff to the least amount of exposure. Assist in maintaining radiological equipment and proper badge usage and storage. Actively participate in the patient timeouts. Document fluoroscopy usage and correct storage and printing of images as determined by site and C-arm.
        1. Effectively communicate with health care providers regarding patient questions and needs. Document accurately in EHR, create encounters as needed, properly update, and utilize medication module. Task and communicate with providers regarding triage needs.


Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
  2. At least five years of related experience preferred.
  3. Strong organizational, judgment, communication, and analytical skills; sometimes under pressure.
  4. Ability to multi-task and perform multiple priorities.
  5. Cooperative and professional behavior toward patients, peers, providers, organizational leadership, and visitors.
  6. Ability to promote favorable facility image with patients, providers, insurance companies and general public.
  7. Ability to work independently, make decisions, and problem solve.
  8. Evidence of leadership qualities. Frequently contributing to the improvement of the department and participate in committee participation, task force, etc.
  9. Ability to contribute to a team environment and to provide excellent customer service.
  10. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.


Licenses & Certifications
  1. Current unrestricted LPN License required.
  2. BLS certified or obtain certification within three months of hire.
