Department: Behavioral Health Nursing Administration 

Location: St. Vincent’s East (Trussville)

Schedule: Full Time | Evening | 3pm-11pm | rotating holiday, no weekends

 

 

Our Behavioral Health unit is an 80-bed unit. We see patients that have psychotic disorders and a long history of mental illness. As an Intake RN, you will be responsible for managing the Emergency Department and outside referrals for our adult psych department. This position works closely with case managers, hospitals, doctors, and our Behavioral health administration team. This role heavily reviews lab work and referrals. 

 

St. Vincent’s East is licensed for 362 beds and is located just 20 minutes from downtown. It sits between Irondale and Trussville, AL. It is a general medical and surgical facility that offers a variety of programs and services to fit individual, corporate, and community needs. It is the second largest Ascension hospital in the Birmingham area. It is situated on a hill overlooking the beautiful community of Trussville, AL. This hospital has a suburb feel which appeals to those outlying communities that prefer not to have to drive downtown.

What You Will Do:

Coordinate patient intake activities and resources.

  • Evaluate severity of illness for all elective, direct and urgent admissions to determine appropriate level of patient care.
  • Review physician orders for clinical appropriateness / completeness and proper admission status.
  • Coordinate education and development of internal staff and external departments to ensure understanding of intake review and approval process. 
  • Conduct complex clinical review for inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary services requests for medical necessity.
What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
