<p> </p> <p style="text-align: center;"> <strong>Instructor of Surgical Technology</strong></p> <p style="text-align: center;"> <strong>Arkansas State University- Newport</strong></p> <p> </p> <p style="text-align: left;">The Instructor of Surgical Technology (ST) reports to the Director of ST and is responsible for teaching <strong>ST</strong> courses as appropriate to the two-year college level including classroom and laboratory instruction. This role supports the College's mission of providing and ensuring quality educational programs for ASUN's various constituencies. </p> <p> </p> <p>This position is a 12-month faculty position and will be housed on either the Newport or Marked Tree campus. Travel to other ASUN campuses and clinic facilities will be required.</p> <p> </p> <p> <strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong> </p> <p>·Provides instruction, supervision, and timely assessments of the student's progress in meeting program requirements.</p> <p>·Develops course curriculum, course handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations, including reviewing and participating in textbook selection process where appropriate. </p> <p>·Conducts effective instructional sessions to teach and demonstrate principles, techniques, procedures, or methods of designated subjects during lab and in the classroom as needed and while keeping the established teacher to student ratio.</p> <p>·Observes and evaluates students&#39; work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement. </p> <p>·Administers oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness. </p> <p>·Visits Clinic Sites to ensure student success. </p> <p>·Supports the Director of ST in accreditation efforts and ensures compliance under ARC/STSA and CAAHEP.</p> <p>·Keeps a flexible weekly schedule that best facilitates student learning and access, while adhering to the Faculty Handbook rules on Work Week Expectations. </p> <p>·Posts and keeps office hours to facilitate interaction with students, the college community, and the public.</p> <p>·Attends the Surgical Technology Advisory Board Meetings; offered onsite on a yearly basis or more often as needed.</p> <p>·Assists the Director and other program faculty in maintaining laboratory and training facilities and coordinates appropriate safety guidelines, training, and equipment.</p> <p>·Keeps storage rooms tidy and communicates any supplies needed to the Director. </p> <p>·Provides individualized instruction and tutorial or remedial instruction as appropriate. </p> <p>·Maintains accessibility to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. Maintains course/student records such as student grades, attendance, and training activity details in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit records by established deadlines. </p> <p>·Participates in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field of study and integrate relevant information into training programs. </p> <p>·Maintains licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate. </p> <p>·Attends commencement or other ceremonies appropriate to the faculty member&#39;s discipline or program. Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings where appropriate or as required by supervisor. Performs other academic duties as assigned by supervisor.</p> <p>·Assists Director in coordinating special events related to the ST program. </p> <p>·Serves on college-wide committees, special project teams, state and local committees, and community service and civic committees as needed, and acts as a professional and positive representative of the College. </p> <p>·Promotes and supports concurrent partnerships with area high schools (and career technical center).</p> <p>·Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p> </p> <p> <strong>MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p> <p>Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency; 2) Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA); and 3) have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role</p> <p>or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five</p> <p>years.<strong></strong></p> <p> <strong> </strong></p> <p> <strong>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES</strong> <br />None</p> <p> <br /> <strong>COMMUNICATION SKILLS</strong> <br />Strong communication and computer skills are required</p> <p> <strong> </strong></p> <p> <strong>MATHEMATICAL SKILLS</strong></p> <p>Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.<br /> <br /> <strong>CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS</strong></p> <p>Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.<br /> <br /> <strong>SUPERVISION RECEIVED</strong></p> <p>Under general direction of the Director of ST, working from policies and general directives.
