Position Purpose

The Assistant Manager is responsible for exercising sound independent judgment and collaborating with the school General Manager to implement business unit enrollment and customer engagement strategies and plays a significant role in leading, managing, and mentoring staff; ensuring high quality Swim Path curriculum; and ensuring optimal pool and facility standards.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership & Instructor Development

  • Coach and counsel (manage) non-exempt personnel with regard to job performance, including compliance with FOSS policies, taking corrective action when necessary
  • Implement Foss policies
  • Build trusted and effective relationships to advance an organizational culture that lives the FOSS purpose and values
  • Support recruiting efforts
  • Collaborate with school leaders regarding personnel training and ensure school staff personnel are current on all training requirements
Business Objectives
  • Oversee management of class enrollments, enrollment process, customer engagement initiatives, and other operating practices
  • Support General Manager to implement financial goals for school, including lesson and retail revenue, controllable expenses, staffing levels, inventory management, and other aspects of the school's financial success, and to meet or exceed site KPIs
Customer Service
  • Be a FOSS Brand Ambassador
  • Build relationships with customers to create loyalty and excitement for the FOSS brand, purpose, programming, and community
Facility Care
  • Ensure facility cleanliness standards are satisfied
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Two (2) years of experience in a supervisor role or one year of employment at FOSS
  • Experience in retail, health and fitness, restaurant, or other related experience preferred
  • Self-motivated with a desire to achieve results and excel individually and as a team
  • Availability to workdays, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information, possess a high degree of personal integrity and sound judgment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to participate in organizational, employee or community engagement events as necessary
Working Conditions

In this exempt position, work is expected to be delivered within established deadlines and quality standards. While performing the duties of this position, incumbents may be required to do all or some of the following, with or without accommodation:
  • Ability to work in water and demonstrate the physical movements necessary to teach the FOSS Swim Path curriculum
  • Work in an indoor pool facility that will be warm and humid with water temperatures up to 91 degrees
  • Ability to work in areas exposed to noise, chemicals, and industrial equipment and supplies
  • Speak with others, including children, using clear, professional, and age-appropriate language
  • Move up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladders
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing 15 pounds without assistance and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance
  • Review documents, computer monitors or displays with potentially small print
  • Operate a computer, handheld device such as an iPad, phone and other common office tools or controls
  • Mentally focus on tasks and apply sound reasoning and judgement
