Job Summary:

You will report directly to the Plant Manager and will ensure the efficient and effective management of repair operations in accordance with Union Tank Car Company Standards, the AAR, FRA, and DOT regulations. You oversee Area Managers and Supervisors assigned several areas across all shifts.

Your direct reports include Area Managers and first-line Supervisors in the Plant. (ie. Repair Supervisors, Lining Supervisors, Cleaning Rack, etc.)

Job Requirements:

  • Supervise repair operations via effective coordination of your direct reports.
  • Maintain the production schedule for completing repairs.
  • Drive performance metrics.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in the preparation of shop budget.
  • Monitor productivity, safety, & quality of work in each area.
  • Train new supervisors.
  • Perform annual evaluations of your direct reports.
  • Organize and conduct safety training.
  • Assist in the preparation of accident reports.
  • Supervise the taking of physical inventory.
  • Assign vacation schedules.
  • Provide coverage for the Plant Manager duties when he / she is away.
Education/Experiences/Qualifications:
  • Able to legally work in the US now and in the future without sponsorship.
  • 5 yrs experience tank car / rail car production leadership along with high school diploma or GED
  • Flexible to working different shifts; Possibly weekends.
  • Computer aptitude
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing and able to wear safety equipment
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, enter tank cars via manway opening of approx. 20 inches in diameter, tolerate confined spaces & heights of approx. 14 ft.
  • Visual acuity for safety
  • AAR, FRA, DOT knowledge
  • Knowledge of safety practices, welding & metal fabrication, & blueprint reading
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
