As our Human Resources (HR) Manager in Macon, Georgia, you will be responsible for partnering with the Plant Manager and leadership team to ensure HR strategies and initiatives are tightly linked to the objectives and key challenges of the facility and the business. Additionally, you have responsibility for a unionized employee plant and is a true generalist role with responsibility for staffing, development, employee relations, labor relations, training, employee activities and compliance.

What you'll be doing:

Business Partnership:
  • Leading and directing plant HR activities to support the achievement of plant performance metrics in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Employee Culture
  • Driving the execution of key plant HR initiatives and processes to enable continuous improvement in the areas of organization effectiveness, staffing, employee relations, performance management, training and development, benefits, employment practices and compliance
  • Supporting organization change and continuous improvement efforts and collaborate with plant leadership to ensure successful change management approaches through effective planning and analysis, communication of change initiatives, full and active leadership support and employee involvement
  • Developing and implementing Human Resource strategies and techniques for improvement that provide support to the plant mission, critical issues and goals
  • Tracking and analyzing plant HR metrics to determine root cause and develop and execute action plans to address problem areas
Employee & Labor Relations:
  • Administering the collective bargaining agreement, oversee grievance process and all aspects of labor relations activity
  • Develops local employee and labor relations strategies
  • Driving clear communication to all employees regarding change management in areas of programs and policies
  • Engaging in practical and rational employee relations including investigations, discipline, coaching and counseling to employees
People Development:
  • Drive the talent review process including succession planning for critical roles and development planning for high potential employees
  • Support and develop effective performance management and employee development systems for the salaried and production workforce
  • Develop and drive initiatives to foster employee engagement
  • Actively demonstrating leadership in areas of employee safety and health.
  • Coaching and developing plant leadership team members providing HR guidance and input on operational plans and decisions, and maintaining a forward-looking staffing plan

What will make you successful:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field with 5+ years of progressive human resources experience
  • Proven knowledge of principles and processes related to recruitment, selection, training, compensation employee and labor relations, and HR information systems
  • Strong knowledge of applicable employment and labor laws
  • Clear, comprehensive understanding of the link between HR and business strategy
  • Ability to develop clear, actionable steps in support of the plant strategy
  • Ability to engage, inspire, and influence people
  • Strong communications and presentations skills

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in working in a unionized, manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Process Improvement methodologies
  • MBA or MA/MS in applicable field of study
  • PHR or SPHR certification

About the Location (Macon, GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs over 400 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers. Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space. It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world. The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.

Macon, also known as the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World", is in the heart of Georgia and marks a historical crossroads in the south.
