Knowledge of Job- Special Education Assistant

Has considerable knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the School System, Special ED, and classroom practices as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the job of Educational Assistant Special Education. Has considerable knowledge of classroom practices as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities. Knows how to develop and administer operations and staff plans and objectives for the experience and effectiveness of specific duties of the department. Knows how to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, computer operations, equipment needs, etc. as they pertain to departmental operations and activities. Can effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, members of the general public, and all other groups involved in the activities of the department. Can assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner.



Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.


KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math functions; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats; present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job satisfactorily include nonviolent crisis intervention restraints; instructional procedures; conflict resolution; and stages of child development/behavior.


ABILITY is required to schedule activities and work with a wide diversity of individuals; gather and/or collate data, and use basic math and job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances and work with data utilizing defined but different processes. Problem-solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines, and problem-solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as a team; and working with constant interruptions.

RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
