Job Summary

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Special Needs Aide shall work under the District supervision of the Special Education Teacher and the site Principal. The primary responsibility shall be to support the classroom teacher in implementation of the students IEP's.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•A general knowledge of basic learning and social adjustment of students is required.
•Each Special Needs Aide must pass the County proficiency test.
•Bilingual or signing abilities may be preferred.
•Interpersonal skills and flexibility necessary to work cooperatively with others.
•High School Diploma or recognized equivalent.
•CPR certification required (CPR training will be offered by the District).

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Assists certificated staff in classroom programs enrolled and provides training by reinforcing instructions and providing behavioral examples in social, emotional, and functional skills
•Participates in lesson and program planning, staff meetings, and conference with teachers and parents.
•Supports the goals and objectives of instructional objectives by preparing materials and obtaining required supplies or equipment. Actively works with pupils during the activity and assists with clean-up after an activity or assignment.
•Enters into supportive relationship with the pupil under the supervisor's direction to foster learning in an atmosphere of acceptance, and assists in the implementation of behavior objectives in all classroom settings.
•When appropriate, implements teacher assigned activities in regular classes in conjunction with the regular class curriculum.
•Provides necessary supervision and assistance in such activities as toileting, field trips, educational activities on and off campus, meal services, and the arrival and departure of students for home or community functions, when required by students' needs.
•Maintains accurate records and progress

Requirements / Qualifications

AA Degree or 48 semester units from an accredited college or passing score on the Lake County Office of Education para-proficiency test
