Position Description: Medical Director Division: A&D Report to: OTP Manager Worksite: Opiate Treatment Center Work Hours: M-F, 8:00am 4:30pm Safety Sensitive; Yes License/Certification Requirement: All required Minnesota State Licensing standard DEA controlled medication license required (Physician's Assistant or Nurse Praticioner) Must have a valid MN driver's license, current insurance or be insurable. Summary: Provide and supervise health care and Substance Use Disorder treatment to service area residents. Health care is defined as either or both of two components: (l) the care the consumer receives at the point of contact with the health care system; and (2) the continued care of the individual as a health care consumer. The care is two-dimensional: (1) Identification management and/or referral of the health problems; and (2) the maintenance of the consumer's health by means of preventive and health care promotion action. Education Requirement and Experience: Standard DEA controlled medication license required (Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner). 8 hours of CNE per DHS (X waiver no longer needed) regarding basic understanding of evidence-based substance use disorder and treatment. Two years of primary health care and addiction medicine experience preferred in tribally operated. Urban Indian or Indian Health Service programs. Two (2) years of supervisory experience of Health care providers and medical personnel. Experience working with the team approach. Some experience with development of policy and procedure. Board certification addiction medicine. Supervisor Duties: Act as Medical Director for A&D programs: OTPARC and oversee nursing staff medical services for clients being treated for opioid substance use. Duties/Responsibilities Duties will be consistent with the general practice of medicine and the specialty od addiction medicine and shall be performed in accordance with customary rules of ethics and conducts of American Medical Association and such other bodies, formal or informal government or otherwise, to whom the employee looks for medical practice direction and guidance and to whom the employee is subject to licensing and control. The employee shall provide medical and services to maintain medical practice at the (A & D) Addictions and Dependencies Division to collaborate and practice with the Indian Health Service (I.H.S.) Hospital/C1inics in Cass Lake. Provide high-quality health care services including the following: A. Accessible and available health services. B. Education of and communication with those served concerning the diagnosis and treatment of their medical condition, appropriate preventative measures and use of the health care system. C. Treatment that is consistent with clinical impressions and working diagnosis. D. Continuity of care. E. Appropriate, accurate and complete medical record entries. F. Adequate and appropriate transfer of information when clients are referred to another care provider. G. Assess real or potential health and current health status, including analysis of health behavior related to lifestyle and culture. Devise, implement and evaluate plans of care utilizing sound clinical judgments based on based on assessment of the physical, psycho-clinical judgment based on assessment of the physical, psychological, emotional, societal and environmental needs of the patient. Assist individuals to assume responsibility for the prevention of illness and the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health. Consult, refer and collaborate with other disciplines involved in the delivery of total client care. Utilize the resources of the Reservation community. Promote collegial relationships with other clinical staff and providers in the community. Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional growth by involvement in peer review and the review of protocols and procedures; participate in continuing education. Demonstrate awareness of issues relating to medical practice and heal h care. Participate in community education and other professional activities. Attend all meeting and trainings as required. Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all dynes. Adhere to policies governing staff conduct. Other duties as assigned.
