The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, of the Institute for the sleep Center, performs PSG, MSLT/MWT, HST, and PAP titrations on adult patients and children ( < 5 yrs. old), under the direction of the Director.
(Responsibilities)
· Responsible for reviewing patient data in preparedness for a PSG.
· Responsible for hooking patient up with electrodes/monitoring equipment needed to record a PSG; and performing pre-PSG equipment calibrations.
· Monitors patients throughout the PSG, making notations on patient records every half hour.
· Removes electrodes at the end of the PSG and documents post-PSG findings.
· Documents dates of completion for each process of interpretation of PSG/CPAP/MSLT/MWT/HST, including charges.
· Cleans all equipment as indicated by Infection Control.
· Performs inventory on a monthly basis.
· Collects data for the monthly Performance Improvement reports.
· Responsible for identifying equipment malfunctions and scheduling proper repair or replacement.
· Maintains a neat and clean work environment; cleans all surfaces at the end of their shift.
· Participates in Journal Club and all staff meetings.
· Maintains patient charts in proper order, and files in appropriate file.
· Review Sleep Studies with the Physicians/staff.
· Performs mask fits and CPAP trials (PAP naps) on patients.
· Participates in Health fairs.
· Performs monthly check on Code Cart.
· Assists with the entire Direct Referral process.
· Assists with the set-up of durable medical equipment on patients.
· Completes back-ups and typing for interpretation process.
· Completes mandatory HRH annual e-Learning.
· Performs other related tasks as requested by Manager/Administration to maintain department operations.
· Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
· Adheres to HRH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
· High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
· Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology -or- Successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency for all competencies required of a sleep technician.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Medical terminology.
· Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Minimum Experience:
· At least two years of Polysomnographic Technologist experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
· Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds either the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT-preferred), Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential.
· BLS certification.
· RPSGT, NJ State Polysomnographic Technologist license.
