Job Title Financial Accountant I (Cooperative Extension Program) Agency Prairie View A&M University Department Adloc Cooperative Extension Programs Proposed Minimum Salary $3,194.84 monthly Job Location Prairie View, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description Under the general supervision of the Budget Specialist III, the Financial Accountant I is responsible for reconciling and providing various financial reports for accounts for the Cooperative Extension Program (CEPR) in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR). This position is responsible for assisting in the overall improvement of fiscal operations, functions, processes, and internal controls to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the CAFNR. This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Completes monthly reconciliation of the statement of accounts for all federal, state, local, and private accounts in CAFNR, specifically those funded under CEPR, and reports discrepancies to the Budget Specialist III or relevant area. * Review daily reports and transactions, and take necessary actions, including corresponding with other fiscal staff both within and outside the department. Ensure that adequate documentation and charges are identified and posted correctly, and that any needed corrections are made promptly and accurately. * Provides financial reports intermittently to internal and external stakeholders and assists with the year-end closing of each account and close out of sponsor funded programs. * Uses data driven methods to review, improve, develop and/or implement changes and monitor effectiveness of those changes. Assists the Budget Specialist III in leading, reviewing and counseling with administration to identify opportunities for financial reporting and reconciliation improvements. * Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as deemed necessary. Required Education and Experience: * Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Business or related field. * Accounting experience in a business office preferred. Preferred Education and Experience: * Master's degree in Accounting, Business or related field. * Four or more years of experience in an accounting related position. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. * Excellent critical thinking and analytical capabilities with attention to detail and accuracy. * Ability to apply problem-solving skills to complex problems, prioritize, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. * Knowledge of account reconciliation and problem solving. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. Special Requirements: * Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus the minimum required years of experience.
