Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Clinical Excellence/patient care
•Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
•Utilizes an age appropriate, holistic approach for the patients and families served in the Emergency Department.
•Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within the scope of practice.
•Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients
•Float to other areas to assist in providing nursing support/cares as needed
Clinical Excellence and Patient Education
• Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and makingthe necessary referrals to provide continuity of care
• Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
• Assist in developing a plan of care for the patient
• Consults appropriate resources when indicated
• Give written/printed discharge instructions to ED patients being discharged as outlined by the physician including but not limited to follow up cares, medications and referrals.
Basic Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Performance Criteria
• Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
• Demonstrates ability to meet needs of the department with regular, reliable attendance.
• Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
• Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
• Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
• Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
• Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations
Requirements:
•Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
•ADN Required
•Current license in good standing from the Iowa Board of Nursing
•ACLS and PALS cerification within 1 year of employment. TNCC or equivalent within 1 year of employment
•BLS within 6 months of hire
•Mandatory reporting within 6 months of hire
