About the team:
Provides respiratory services within the scope of practice under a physician's order including, but not limited to, all types of oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, advanced airway management, arterial puncture and analysis, ECGs, and mechanical ventilation of adult/geriatric patients. Plans, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of therapy and communicates with the provider and members of the interdisciplinary care team. Consistently delivers quality patient-centered care. Works in a manner that maintains efficient operations, a positive work environment and supports the mission, vision, and values of Summit Pacific.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Associate degree from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Two years of directly related experience in an acute care setting required.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registration:
  • Current, unrestricted Washington State Respiratory care practitioner license.
  • Current National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) is required upon hire; and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required within one year of hire.
  • Advanced cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within six (6) months of hire.
Job Specific Duties:
  • Responsible for the expedient care and compassionate treatment of each patient with whom he/she comes in contact. Assesses and interprets evaluations and test results, determines respiratory therapy treatment plans, and administers medically prescribed respiratory therapy in consultation with providers. Conducts pulmonary function tests including, but not limited to, all types of oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, advanced airway management, arterial puncture and analysis, ECGs, and mechanical ventilation of adult/geriatric patients.
  • Restores patient's pulmonary function, alleviates pain, and supports life by planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy.
  • Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants, operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
  • Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing bronchopulmonary drainage, assisting with breathing exercises, and monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.
  • Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress and recommending adjustments and modifications.
  • Directs treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently
  • Participates in discharge planning by contributing to patient care conferences with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers. Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs. Recommends and/or provides assistive equipment and outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
  • Assists with writing departmental policies and procedures, implementation of protocols and coordination of workflows within the interdisciplinary care team environment. Develops respiratory therapy services at Summit Pacific by providing information and developing and conducting in-service training programs.

10. Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.
This is a union position with a pay range of $34.07 to $47.55 per hour, depending on experience.
