We are currently seeking to fill the position of Part-Time Fire Inspector. This position is responsible for ensuring all commercial and residential structures within the Village comply with applicable state and federal fire standards and local ordinances in addition to contributing to the Fire Department's mission of advancing public safety through fire prevention, investigation, and education programs. This position reports to the Fire Marshal.
Key Responsibilities
This position will perform variety of administrative and technical work related to fire inspections and prevention, with a primary focus on the Wireless Alarm Radio Program. This position is responsible for inspections of existing structures, residential, new construction, and remodeling sites for compliance with applicable fire codes, reviewing and approving construction plans for code compliance, assisting in the investigation of fire incidents, inspection for fireworks permits, issuing warnings and citations for fire code violations, and participating in the inspection of hydrants, sprinkler systems, and elements of all similar fire prevention or protection systems.
This position will also provide public education of fire prevention, respond to citizens' complaints regarding fire code violations and fire hazards, resolve compliance problems with owners within their scope of knowledge and authority, and maintain a variety of data and records.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Must have a High School Diploma and a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a firefighter. Must possess Illinois Certified Firefighter III or Advanced Firefighter Certification(s). Must possess a valid driver's license. Ability to obtain and maintain a Fire Prevention Officer I (FPO I) Certification within one (1) year is also required.
Our ideal candidate will be a self-starter and have the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. They must be a team-player and have in-depth fire science knowledge and have prior experience conducting fire inspections.
Additional Information
This position will be generally scheduled to work 25 hours per week, a regular and consistent schedule is required. Must have flexibility outside normal work schedule and be available for on-call or as needed basis.
Part-time (20 to 29 Hours) classified employees are eligible to participate in vision benefits, flexible spending accounts, and ancillary benefits. In addition, retirement benefits are provided through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and employees have the option to participate in a 457(b) retirement savings plan.
