Radiation Therapists implement plans of treatment, prescribed by an oncologist and created by a medical dosimetrist, and use accelerators and ionizing-radiation producing equipment to treat diseases, primarily different kinds of cancer. The radiation is administered in therapeutic doses and can send certain localized forms of cancer into remission. It can also be used to prevent the recurrence of particularly malignant forms of cancer after they have been removed during surgery. A caregiver in this position works 7:00AM - 3:30PM. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Determine and deliver appropriate patient treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and dosimetrists. Monitor and document patient's condition and report any adverse reactions. Assess and educate patients according to specific department protocols. Position patients and select anatomic/technical parameters accurately. Check and adjust necessary equipment, including linear accelerator. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate of a CAHEA approved School of Radiation Therapy technology or registry eligible. Registered Radiation Therapist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), R.T.(R)(T)(ARRT) in good standing. Current state licensure as a Radiation Therapist. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). Experience with radiation oncology specific electronic medical records as well as record and verify. Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Experience with external radiation therapy, IMRT, IGRT and CT simulation. Requires ability to lift materials weighing up to 35 lbs. Requires ability to push/pull over 100 lbs. Requires dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions. Requires Safe Operating Procedure for x-ray generating equipment. Requires ability to work the hours of operation - flexible. Requires ability to take "call" on weekdays and weekends based on a rotational schedule. Requires ability to float to other CCHS facilities when needed.
