Manager Surgical Business Operations

Major Responsibilities:
  • This position is heavily involved in the Financial Management of surgical services for the PSA. In this role, the manager will Perform monthly variance reporting for revenue and expense and assures variances are addressed and rectified. Collaborate with the Director of Bus Ops on new equipment, instrumentation, technology justifications, pro formas, and feasibility studies.
  • Partner with PSA leadership on operational, strategic, and capital budgets. Identify areas of variation in physician preference items, supply utilization, and the impact on cost management as well as quality/safety performance.
  • Review financial Responsibility for assuring proper pricing and billing process are implemented and maintained accordingly to Advocate's financial control policy and corporate compliance guidelines. Follow up with supply chain partners as needed.
  • Utilize an advanced understanding of data analytics to process complex datasets for the construction and maintenance of PSA dashboards, volume reports, scorecards, and potential physician scorecards. Provide high level analysis summaries of data to PSA leadership providing potential areas of opportunity.
  • Monitor PSA key result areas as related to finance and surgery scheduling. Ensure data integrity is uncompromised for published reports. Design and construct reports for presentations to leaders and physician communication.
  • Plans, develops and assists in the implementation of new surgical services and programs across the PSA. Provide financial analysis for the PSA as necessary to substantiate the viability of new services including reimbursement potential, procedural profile, and operational costs.
  • Participate in the strategic development of programmatic institutes within the PSA through key partnerships with business development and decision support.
  • Review profitability of current services and programs and make recommendation for optimization. Develop opportunities to align best practices across the PSA as it relates to charge auditing and/or other operational areas.
  • Continue to enhance knowledge and remain up to date with changes in surgical and procedural areas related to technology, operations, and finances. Participate in activities to enhance professional growth. participate in operational governance for financial and customer growth opportunities.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.

Education/Experience Required:
  • Masters preferred or relevant work experience *3-5 years operations experience, ie., project management, counsulting, or data analyst *Surgical or Procedural experience are preferred *Previous management experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Self-directed, minimal supervision required *Exceptional oral and written communication skills *Ability to prioritize, plan and execute. *Proficiency with data analytics *Consulting and/or project management experience *Strong knowledge of healthcare finance
