Career Opportunity

We are currently seeking candidates for a Senior IT Specialist/Windows position in our Wallops Island, Virginia office. The Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island, VA requires management, engineering, operation, and technical expertise for the activation, operations, maintenance and engineering of equipment, systems and computer programs in support of all NAVSEA and PEO IWS missions. The SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior IT Specialist/Windows will have adequate experience and training to effectively perform the duties listed below:

  • Install hardware, build software, configure, and maintain Windows servers and workstations.
  • Create and administer user accounts, security groups, and group policy.
  • Conduct backups and system recoveries.
  • Configure and manage patching solutions and log collection.
  • Provide technical support to onsite users.
  • Maintain compliance with DoD Security Technical Configuration Guides (STIGs).
  • Investigation trouble calls, isolate faults, identify and implement corrective actions to restore information systems operations.
  • Oversee daily operations and coordinate performance of team members to ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to employees, addressing any issues or concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Manage the Business IT Effort and team schedules, including ensuring adequate coverage during absences.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and open communication.
  • Assist with daily operations and vendor coordination as needed to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Document efforts and update monthly deliverables to provide status updates to management.

  • This position includes a low level of travel.

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Seven or more years of directly related experience in systems engineering, administration, and security applied to RDT&E and business environments, DoD and Information Technology systems, secure MS Windows server and desktop systems configurations, military system specifications, and system administration, various IA-enabled appliances, systems, and applications may substitute for degree.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes MS Windows 10 or newer, MS Server 2019 or newer, WSUS, SIEM products, virtualization software, MS SQL database, DISA STIGS, Solarwinds, ACAS/Nessus, PKI, Storage Area Networks, backup/restore solutions, and DNS.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in written and oral presentations.
  • Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor and/or manager when not in the office.

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance is highly desired, however candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations.
