As Distribution Center Process Improvement Specialist, you wll oversee and implement all continouous improvement initiatives at our Macon Distribution Center. You wll also be tasked t olead, manage, and deliver process improvement training to a prodction crew of about 15 production employees.

Your focus will be to plan, coordinate, and direct activities that are of significant scope and complexity. These activities frequently involve procedures, processes, systems, and policies that directly impact productivity and customer service. In addition, you will receive direct supervision from our Plant Logistics Manager and be expected to develop and nurture core relationships with internal (Fabrication, DC, Customer Focus teams) and external (Channel Customers, Trucking Firms, and Dispatchers) partners.

What you'll be doing
  • Steering the continuous advancement of our Macon distribution center WMS system
  • Developing and implementing warehouse systems and procedures to drive results
  • Identifying, initiating, and implementing significant process improvement activities
  • Planning, coordinating, and directing inbound and outbound shipments and receipts
  • Promoting and ensuring a safe work environment by providing ongoing safety training
  • Making sure your crew adheres to company and governmental policies and regulations
  • Ensuring that distribution center shipment and quality goals are met or exceeded
  • Utilizing tools such as Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement techniques to bolster continuous improvement initiatives
  • Regularly verify that distribution center processes are being followed
  • Completing shipment paperwork, directing drivers, and assigning carriers
  • Processing inbound and outbound orders and planning loading and receipt schedules
  • Serving as Shift Administrator for Dispatcher WMS
  • Investigating non-conformances to determine root cause
  • Developing and evaluating reasonable alternatives to problems and provide solutions by collecting and evaluating all necessary data
  • Act as SME and go-to super user for Manhattan SCALE inquiries
  • Providing oversight of routine department communications

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Ability to implement change in shipping and/or distribution center systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of key OSHA regulations and willingness to work different shifts
  • Familiarity with incident investigation tools and structured methodologies such as Root Cause Failure Analysis and 5 Why

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of shipping or distribution center supervision experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, a technical discipline, or related
  • Experience with implementing process improvement methodologies (including SPC)

About the Location (Macon, GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs over 400 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers. Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space. It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world. The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.
