Description

Responsible for bidding & estimating efforts - drawing and specification reviews, soliciting and negotiating subcontractors / suppliers pricing, performing quantity take-offs, pricing/scoping/bidding construction projects, and creating / completing bid / estimate packages in the trade(s) as assigned by the Lead Estimator.

Key / Specific Responsibilities:

Estimating Support for Projects: Reviews public notices to identify bid opportunities for pursuit and forwards to Lead Estimator for evaluation and assignment. Thoroughly reviews all bidding documents / requirements, understands the risk elements, and addresses such for evaluation. Prepares and maintains bid plans, documents, and reproductions (document control). Reviews project documents for cost effectiveness and suggestions for value alternative opportunities. Performs detailed and well annotated quantity take-offs, to build complete and detailed estimates within HCSS HeavyBid Software System. Communicates with architects and consultants to clarify scopes of work, materials, and schedule requirements; and properly documents these clarifications. Reviews contracts and all front-end documents (scope, schedule, price, terms, etc.) to ensure bids are compliant and all encompassing. Prepares qualifications, assumptions and exclusions that align with contractual requirements of project. Oversees all bidding requirements; prequalifications (RFQs / RFPs), short listing, etc. Works with PM team to establish plan for approach / execution of projects, construction schedule durations, General Conditions and logistical cost items. Prepares comprehensive bid proposals; bid forms, insurance forms, etc. and any other necessary documents. Participates in bid reviews with internal team, including Operations, PM, and Lead Estimator. Maintains on-going dialogue with awarding-body for bid projects that are pending award. Prepares budgets for awarded projects. Supports PM team in setting-up Chart of Accounts for projects within Oracle. Leads project hand-off meetings with field management team. Provides input on Site Specific Safety Plans and Critical Work Plans. Organizes and archives all bid information for future reference. Attends and participates in all design and preconstruction coordination meetings. Communicates with and supports operations team during execution of projects; supporting buyout, Exhibit 1 review/creation, bid history / approach, and change order pricing when appropriate. Attends and participates in bi-weekly Sales and BD Meeting. Subcontractor Analysis for Bids:

Actively solicits, evaluates, supports, and maintains good communication with vendors and sub-subcontractors. Directs, coordinates and provides information and documents to vendors and sub-subcontractors. Prepares contractual exhibits and bid packages for sub-subcontract work scopes. Industry Knowledge / Relationships:

Builds and maintains relationships with vendors, owners, subcontractors, and sub-subcontractors to obtain a competitive advantage for Castle. Builds and maintains relationships with internal McCarthy clients. Attends industry events and represents Castle to the industry in a professional capacity. Keeps current with latest estimating technologies and techniques, including HeavyBid & AgTek. Keeps current with latest practices, methods, and techniques in trade(s). Meeting Expectations:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating site utility and/or grading work, or 7-plus years of equivalent experience required. General knowledge of construction principles and processes. Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications. General knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes. Working knowledge of estimating technology and tools such as HCSS HeavyBid, HardDollar, B2W, AccuBid, AgTek, BlueBeam, PlanSwift, Stack Takeoff, On-Screen Takeoff, Trimble Business Center, Primavera P6, etc. Strong math and analytical skills. Attention to detail. Solid interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values. Maintains a "value added" approach to estimating.

For Southern California locations only, the salary range for this position is: $101,000 - $130,000 depending on experience. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
