Director of Finance and Accounting

SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for overseeing the general operations of the Accounting Department, with heavy emphasis on the billing department. The Director of Finance and Accounting will work closely with the CFO to develop and implement strategies impacting the financial strength of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides direction and leadership within the department, including all tasks relating to accounting (payables and reporting), revenue cycle (accounts receivable), facilities and the credentialing business components.

Monitors efficiency and accuracy of entire revenue cycle including claim submission through receipt of payment, prioritizing minimal bad debt and timely collection of aged receivables, taking steps to implement corrective action as needed to overcome barriers to full payment for services rendered.

Reconciles all billing and collection information from the EMR system to the General ledger.

Manage accounting functions including General Ledger, grants and donations receivable and accounts payable including segregating grant expenditures within the general ledger.

Accountable for accurate and timely submission of payroll and all related payroll and employee benefit expenses including annual 401k match.

Posting and final review of month-end closing entries, account reconciliations and analysis

Responsible for month-end financial statements and all applicable reports for the Finance Committee and the Board

Direct liaison with external financial auditors for annual, single audit & 401k audits

Support CFO with annual budgeting & forecasting process

Compile & submit annual 1099 filings

Compile & submit annual property tax filings

Responsible for compliance with agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Monitors fiscal controls necessary to manage the day-to-day operations for budgeting, accounts payable, draw/reimbursement, and procurement functions and ensures these functions are successfully carried out in full compliance with all state, federal, local, or other requirements

Will work with CFO to develop and implement best-practice policies, standard operating procedures, and tools to ensure strong and well-controlled operations management, cross-team communication, and workflow

Works with the CFO to meet financial reporting deadlines, provides supporting information for required reports and assist as necessary to ensure compliance with all tax, financial reporting, and audit requirements

Evaluate the performance of direct reports, recommending training, and keep staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet the departments needs and objectives

Perform supervisory duties such as interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS):

A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, major in accounting or finance and/or equivalent work

experience required.

Managerial experience required.

Familiarity with general accounting principles in a non-profit environment.

Mastery of General Ledger including the ability to journal entries and reconcile subsidiary accounts.

Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.) to include v-lookups & pivots

Proficient with automated payroll system, accounting software system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS):

FQHC, medical, or non-profit/grant accounting experience strongly preferred including a thorough working knowledge of the cost reporting requirements of the agency's programs

MIP/SAGE experience preferred
