Biomechanics Engineer - NERVE Center

General Summary of Position:

The UMass Lowell NERVE Center is looking for a Biomechanics Engineer to support multiple exoskeleton studies and performance evaluations. The candidate will be responsible for biomechanics data collection and processing for assigned studies, database management, regulatory approvals (i.e., IRB), equipment/inventory maintenance, recruitment and scheduling, and providing assistance/training/supervision/consultation on using research equipment to faculty, staff, students and collaborators. Opportunities to contribute to scientific presentations and publications exist for motivated candidates.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomechanics, Exercise Science/Kinesiology, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

Experience:

  • At least three years of experience with and proficiency in:
    • Human motion capture instrumentation including optical systems and instrumented treadmill/force platforms for collection and analysis of human motion
    • Surface EMG instrumentation data collection and analysis
    • Human subjects research
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Person hired must have excellent organizational skills, enjoy working in a team, be willing to take initiative and learn new skills, and be comfortable with equipment/sensors/devices troubleshooting.

Additional Considerations:

  • Preference given to candidates with experience in:
    • Inertial motion capture (IMUs), Matlab/Python programming, Visual3d programming, indirect Calorimetry (oxygen consumption measures)
