Job Summary:

The Instructor - Advanced Practice Provider will be in the Section of Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation-Cellular Therapeutics (BMT-CT). This full-time, non-tenure track faculty position will focus primarily on the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults with central nervous system tumors in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children's Hospital Colorado. You will be a member of a provider team that integrates clinical care, education, and research within Pediatric Neuro-Oncology in the inpatient and outpatient settings. This position includes first call responsibilities during clinic hours for new patients and inpatient needs with physician support, care coordination with care teams in our seven state catchment area, and palliative care and hospice coordination. In addition there is occasional weekend/holiday coverage support for patients in the CCBD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide independent care of pediatric patients with central nervous system tumors, primarily in the outpatient clinic setting, in partnership with other members of the multi-disciplinary inpatient and outpatient teams.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) of progress notes, transfer documentation, and discharge summaries.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and monitoring tests.
  • Provide coordination of care between the inpatient and outpatient settings as well as those receiving home care and care in our regional catchment area.
  • Participate in the treatment of patients on clinical research protocols and liaise with members of the clinical research team to ensure appropriate study conduct for relevant patients.
  • Perform procedures independently, after an appropriate period of training if needed:

o Lumbar punctures and Ommaya reservoir taps with or without intrathecal chemotherapy administration.

o Bone marrow aspirations/biopsies.

  • This position will have occasional weekend call responsibilities shared equitably in rotation with other APPs in the CCBD.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters' degree or higher, appropriate to the program
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice within the State of Colorado as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Acute Care Certification is required prior to hire
  • For Physician Assistant: Current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for Physician Assistants.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two prior years' experience in the care of pediatric neuro-oncology patients
  • Experience in using the EPIC electronic medical records system
  • Familiarity with or fluency (preferred) in medical Spanish, meeting hospital criteria for language certification qualification
  • Experience with clinical trials and clinical research
  • Prior experience working as advanced practice provider in academic medical center environment

  • Ability to effectively communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively with staff and faculty within and outside the Section, Department and/or hospital.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients and families and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices in patient safety and quality care.
  • Ability to write orders, including diagnostic tests, medications, care instructions, and adding to patients' electronic medical records.
  • Prescriptive authority as appropriate to advanced degree qualifications.
  • Ability to perform selected procedures including but not limited to lumbar punctures and Ommaya reservoir access with or without intrathecal chemotherapy and bone marrow aspirates and biopsies.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$100,000-130,000.
