JOB SUMMARY
The Librarian supports customers in finding information, plans and conducts Library programs, and assists in purchasing materials. Responsibilities include: providing customer service; overseeing instructional sessions on utilizing the library; planning and administering various Library programs; and preparing, presenting, and coordinating Library programs to target audiences.
Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Staffs Information Services Desk.
  • Supervises assigned staff; trains and evaluates performance.
  • Assists patrons by providing solutions to informational requests and evaluating resources in order to match information needs with reference and/or advisory materials; processes interlibrary loan requests in order to meet the needs of patrons.
  • Promotes the Library's services; assists with creating, planning, implementing, and marketing reference and instructional materials, services, and programs.
  • Performs a wide range of Library circulation activities, which includes: assisting and training patrons and staff in finding print and electronic resources; ascertaining and responding to patron's needs; searching for and pulling materials from shelves for patrons; processing incoming and outgoing Library materials; obtaining payments for fines; creating and updating patron records; placing materials on hold; preparing and disseminating notifications of overdue items; communicating library policies and procedures; and/or performing other activities.
  • Manages periodicals; manages Library's art gallery and community board.
  • Provides technical support to patrons for eBooks and electronically based services.
  • Creates and evaluates programming.
  • Implements and initiates outreach programs and training for groups of all ages.
  • Participates in ordering and maintaining library materials, which may include: assisting in determining materials to discard; processing purchased and donated materials; ordering supplies and cataloging materials; and performing related activities.
  • Creates promotional materials.
  • Gathers statistics and submits reports.
  • Prepares displays, exhibits, book lists, blogs, and bibliographies.
  • Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.

Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Requires a Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as required.
