Description

POSITION: Special EducationTeacher / Therapeutic Day School Grades 4th - 6th

LOCATION: Solomon Schechter Therapeutic Day School / Northbrook, IL

SUPERVISOR: Director of Education

POSITION SUMMARY

The licensed teacher will work with students in our self-contained special education classroom. The teacher in this role will work with special education students with academic, nonacademic, social, health and emotional needs of the students in the general education and special education environments. The teacher will work with related service personnel to meet the IEP needs of students. The teacher will provide supported instruction and strategies to Para-educators and individual students, small groups of students as well as monitor students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • All case management;
  • Development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs, Behavior Plans, and data
  • Development, implementation, and monitoring of instructional, behavioral, daily living, personal care, independent living goals, and community-based instruction.
  • Classroom staff supervision & management.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration with related services providers and coordinators.
  • Job responsibilities may include lifting and physical management.
  • Driving is required to access the community
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Illinois Teaching License for Special Education
  • Hold or be eligible for LBS-1 and/or LBS-2
  • Experience working with students with significant special needs to include autism, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and behavioral challenges.
  • Demonstrate calm leadership in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Judaics is helpful
  • Hold a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Must maintain a current certification in CPR and Safety Care
