Job purpose
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Medication Technician assists the Nurse by administering prescribed medications to patients. Providing quality direct and indirect care to individuals receiving chemical dependency/addiction treatment services, is a supporting team member with the counseling / tech staff and a member of the interdisciplinary team, communicating relevant details, for comprehensive client care.
Duties and responsibilities
The following duties are routine for this position.These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains medical records under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Verifies identity of patient receiving medication and records the name of drug, and time of administration on specified forms or database.
  • Presents medication to patient and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication using specified procedures.
  • May take vital signs or observes patient to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
  • Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
  • Records and restock medication inventories.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects the facility by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High School education or GED
  • Training of medication administration
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a chemical dependency facility preferred
  • CPR and first aid certified.
  • On-going training on of cultural awareness and demonstration of sensitivity to various cultural norms and values.
