Job Description The Supervisor nurse manages hospital staff in all unit areas of his/her shift towards optimum productivity. He/She supervises hospital staff to ensure quality care and the satisfaction of the patient. This position requires the ability to coordinate with all units and departments to ensure efficiency and harmony. He/She does staff scheduling quality improvement and assists with evaluations. Must be flexible with duty hours. Competent in providing care to patients from newborn to elderly, performing all functions in a professional and ethical manner. Is able to assist with patient care during times of need. Maintains professional relationship with hospital staff and physicians. Collaborates with other health care team members to ensure quality patient care in correlation with the nursing process, Alabama Nurse Practice Acts, South Baldwin Regional Medical Center standards of care, philosophy, mission and the medical plan of treatment and care. Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Alabama required. Possess the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Experience: Two years experience in labor and delivery required. Supervisor experience and administrative ability preferred. Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to assist in care appropriate to the patient. Must relate well with physicians, administration, and hospital community. Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function under stress. Licenses/Certificates: Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required. A thorough knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and their application required. ACLS, PALS and NRP required within first 6 months. Must maintain all four certifications to remain in Supervisor nurse position. Excellent communication skills required. Must complete and maintain required departmental competencies.
