Job Description
The Health Educator, Lead is responsible for providing oversight of the Primary Prevention Grant, funded by Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). This position works closely with a team of passionate professionals to lead an evidence-informed approach to substance misuse prevention across campus. Efforts focus on reducing risk factors and enhancing protective factors for improved health and well-being. As such, the Health Educator, Lead executes a comprehensive strategy to create an environment that promotes health across all levels of the socioecological model. At an expert level, this position plans, implements and evaluates evidence informed strategies, programs, and services as outlined in the scope of the grant. Prevention strategies include, but are not limited to, creating large scale social marketing campaigns, hosting substance free alternative events, facilitating educational workshops and coordinating capacity building trainings for staff. The Health Educator, Lead oversees day to day activities and operations for the project, including provision of support for project personnel, submission of project reports, oversight of grant expenditures, process improvement, and liaising with funders. The position conducts needs assessments, monitors program fidelity, and oversees complex data collection to ensure project objectives are achieved. The position will work closely with key campus partners to develop collaborative relationships to mobilize the campus community around substance misuse prevention. The Health Educator, Lead serves as a subject matter expert and provides consultation to campus partners on student wellness issues including, but not limited to, alcohol, cannabis, and mental well-being.
The successful candidate will demonstrate expert knowledge of primary prevention strategies and an ability to identify and implement new, creative solutions that may extend beyond the scope of the grant. The successful candidate will also have experience with grant work and an ability to apply principles of diversity and inclusion when implementing health education/prevention programs. A strong understanding of data collection methods and program evaluation is key to success in this role.
This position reports to the Director of Health Promotion.
Management - 50%

  • Assist Director in providing leadership for the project.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the funding agency.
  • Work with the Director to ensure the grant is meeting stated goals and deliverables.
  • Assist in creating data collection systems and monitoring program outcomes.
  • Create timely project reports and submit to funders.
  • Monitor grant expenses and approve disbursement of funds.
  • Provide technical support for project personnel.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings.
  • Ensure prevention activities are implemented with fidelity and per funding specifications.
Health Education and Promotion- 40%
  • Conduct prevention workshops and facilitate group discussions.
  • Evaluate program success through surveys and other assessments.
  • Take a lead role in assisting with the development of strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for grant related programs and services.
  • Review scientific literature and choose evidence-based strategies.
  • Lead coordination of campus wide prevention efforts.
  • Oversee development of effective health education materials and campaigns.
  • Apply principals of diversity and inclusion when implementing prevention programs.
  • Ensure health promotion materials are up to date and accurate.
  • Build effective partnerships across campus and collaborate on programming that promotes health and success.
  • Oversee marketing efforts for key prevention programs.
  • Partner with community agencies to enhance health promotion efforts and leverage resources.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters or advanced degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Healthy Psychology or related field.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Health Education Specialist.

Salary
Anticipated salary range is $62,996 - $78,745. Annual salarycommensurate with candidate's qualifications and relatedexperience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
