JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS:

  3. High School Graduate or equivalent
  4. Three years verifiable food service experience, Child Nutrition Program experience preferred
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license
  6. Current ServSafe Certification
  7. Effective interpersonal communication skills

REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Director, Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide nutritious meals that meet all government requirements, in a clean and comfortable environment, and in an efficient manner.

FUNCTION OF JOB:

The cafeteria manager is responsible for the fiscal management and operation of the child nutrition program at an individual school. The cafeteria manager must manage the program in compliance with the Lanett City School Board Policy and Procedures Manual, and any local, state, and federal regulations. Those responsibilities include, but are not limited to, directing all aspects of the daily operation of meal preparation, food ordering, daily reports, monthly inventories, training, and use and knowledge of computerized systems, supervision of child nutrition program staff.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides supervision, technical assistance and training to all child nutrition program employees within the individual school location. Trains child nutrition program staff to successfully meet the standard of the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs relating to food preparation, serving and display techniques and sanitation practices.
  2. Ensures that all food ordering is completed and submitted to the Central Office or appropriate vendor in a timely manner. Monitors all food and non-food items ordered to ensure that adequate quantities are available for meal production and service.
  3. Supervises food production and service to ensure that meals are nutritionally adequate, meet high standards for flavor and appearance and meet all federal and state requirements.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to train child nutrition program employees to ensure that adequate, accurate records of student meal eligibility, correct meal and a la carte prices are kept. Ensures that Offer vs Serve requirements for meal reimbursement are followed.
  5. Responsible for the counting and recording of all prepayments, daily cash collections, preparation of the daily deposit and ensures that money is accounted for and deposited in bank daily. The Cafeteria Manager is responsible for the signed receipt of deposit.
  6. Maintains adequate, accurate, current food production records as required by local, state, and federal regulations to ensure required portions are prepared and served; endures all required daily reports are accurately completed in a timely manner and filed for audit purposes.
  7. Responsible for verifying receipt of all goods against invoices and delivery tickets' signs and submits the invoices and delivery tickets to the Child Nutrition Program Director for payment. Maintains a detailed inventory on a monthly basis.
  8. Interviews prospective child nutrition employees, submits recommendations for hire to Child Nutrition Program Director, with final recommendation for hire by School District Superintendent to School Board for approval. Conducts a formal meeting for newly hired employees to document and inform them of all child nutrition policies and procedures.
  9. Assists CNP Director or school principal with documentation of employee's performance. Reports on the job injuries/incidents immediately to appropriate personnel.
  10. Handles and adjusts to emergency situations within the school day. Performs duties in a manner that promotes good public relations.
  11. Supervises all child nutrition personnel in the proper use and safety features of all equipment; maintains equipment and facility, and reports needed equipment and facility repairs to the Central Office. Maintains equipment/maintenance repair and/or installation reports.
  12. Practices and ensures adherence to all safety procedures related to facility and equipment usage. Maintains a safe working environment for all employees. Responsible for the opening and closing of the food service area, and that all equipment is turned off before the area is secured at the end of day. Assure that no food, supplies or equipment be taken from the cafeteria by employees or other individuals.
  13. Contacts representatives of the health department as necessary and assists them during routine school site visitations, food spoilage checks, or suspected food borne illness investigations.
  14. Coordinates the smooth operation of the entire child nutrition program at assigned school and maintains an organized office work area.
  15. Attends all SDE offered Summer Manager Workshops.
  16. Assumes other duties as assigned by the principal or Child Nutrition Director.
  17. Obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate per State Department of Public Health guidelines
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Capable of being trained in safe food handling techniques.
  2. Ability to communicate, understand verbal and written instructions.
  3. Capable of maintaining emotional control
  4. Adequate physical mobility including, but not limited to the following: work in a standing position for prolonged periods of time, lift and/or carry moderate to heavy weight daily (15-45 pounds), walk, balance, bend, kneel, and reach, exert adequate force to push/pull at least 40 pounds.
  5. Capable of working in an environment which may include, but is not limited to exposure to the following: slippery surface, prolonged periods with hands in water, approved cleaning chemicals, common food allergens, extreme hot or cold temperatures.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and length of contract to be established by the Board's salary schedule.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional or support personnel.
