About the Role

Altasciences is seeking a dedicated Clinical Veterinarian to join our team and contribute to the health and well-being of laboratory animals used in scientific studies.
The Clinical Veterinarian examines, diagnoses, and treats laboratory animals to ensure the health of animals used in scientific research and to comply with regulations governing their humane and ethical treatment in support of study conduct by performing the following duties. Supports the design and performance of studies in collaboration with Study Directors and other personnel. Primary contributor to improvements in the department of reproductive toxicology specifically regarding infant care and dam assessments, including the development of staff training programs and specific guidelines for care of high-risk animals.
What You'll do Here
• Maintain good laboratory practices (GLP)
• Provide routine and/or specialized veterinary medical, dental, imaging, and surgical services for all animal species
• Provide professional leadership in the care and resolution of complex medical cases that arise within the facility
• Assist in the design and implementation of the preventive medicine program for all animal species
• Provide training and supervision of staff regarding technical procedures, appropriateness of such and the humane use of animals in their programs
• Assist in maintaining compliance with federal regulations governing the humane care and use of laboratory animals
• Assist in the development, review, revision, and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP) relating to animal issues
• Assist with training sessions, includes husbandry, veterinary care, utilization of animal models and development of safety, bio safety, emergency response and occupational health programs
• Document staff proficiency
• Assist the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee, including reviewing protocols, animal colony issues, management issues and consultations
• Assists in selecting animals for specific research based on knowledge of species and research principles and techniques
• Performs clerical/administrative duties, including medical records, reports, examinations sheets, and forms readied for use for recording procedures etc.
• May assume regulatory responsibilities in the absence of the attending veterinarian
• Ensure preventive health program execution, domestic isolation programs, colony/stock animal's health/medical care
• Share clinical rotation with other vets including on-call weekends and holidays
• Acts as after-hours emergency contact
• Animal model development/advisor
• Author and present publications, conference presentations
• Special project/interest assignments
What You'll Need to Succeed
• DVM required
• 1+ years working with laboratory animal medicine including experience with nonhuman primates
• Experience with FDA GLP preferred
• Active veterinary license in at least 1 US State
• Must acquire Washington State License in Veterinary Medicine within 1 year of job start
• Graduates of non-AVMA accredited veterinary schools must have educational commission for foreign veterinary graduates (ECFVG) certification
• Basic computer skills sufficient to perform the daily duties of the role
What We Offer:
The pay range estimated for this position is $140,000 to $180,000 per year. Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
