Vice President, Operations Initialized Capital

Initialized Capital, an early stage venture capital firm with more than $3.2B assets under management, is hiring a vice president of operations to lead our operations team. We are the earliest investors in 25 unicorns, some of which include Coinbase, Instacart, Flexport, Rippling, Standard Cognition, and Blend. The startups in our portfolio are worth over $200B in market value today. And were grateful that our managing partner, Garry Tan, has been recognized by the Forbes Midas List the last three years in a row.

The VP of Operations will lead the goal setting and performance management processes for the firm, align initiatives to those goals, and drive the successful execution of cross-functional programs. This is a new role that brings together Initializeds strategic operations, software products, marketing, and admin teams with the goal of enhancing and building our ability to successfully lead strategic initiatives and ensure scale and growth for the firm.

This role requires a high level of attention to detail, prompt and clear communication skills, analytical problem-solving abilities, and an orientation toward execution. This full-time role reports to the president and is based in San Francisco, California or New York, New York.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with team leads and firm leadership in the development and management of annual and quarterly goals. Develop processes to promote accountability and clarity of focus on key priorities.
  • Mature operations to maximize the impact to our business and ensure we are building processes that allow us to scale and can be successfully measured.
  • Solve for firm-wide pain points and challenges, and identify areas of opportunity.
  • Develop and execute on team-wide performance management, growth and promotion programs.
  • Manage and mentor a team of high-performing operations professionals across a variety of functions: strategic operations, software, marketing, and admin. Collaborate closely with finance and legal teams.
  • Budgeting for multiple projects, including monitoring and controlling costs.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in operations, product management, or people/culture preferably in a high-growth technology startup environment.
  • Entrepreneurial background and operating approach.
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading a high-performance team.
  • Extensive experience and a passion for people management and talent development.
  • Prior experience executing, measuring results, and demonstrating progress.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally across a diverse group of partners and operations team members. Be able to quickly build trust with other team members.
  • Excellent active listening skills combined with the ability to develop a nuanced point of view that can be comfortably shared and refined with other team members. Ability to know the right questions to ask, as well as when to listen and learn.
  • Demonstrated strong written communication skills with an emphasis on thoughtful, clear communication.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent prioritization and task management skills.
  • Bachelors degree required; MBA a plus.
  • Desire and ability to learn about venture capital, new domains and emerging technologies quickly. Experience with software development (product, design or engineering) a plus.
