Reports to the Correctional Food Service Supervisor II. This position is responsible for providing supervision and custody of inmates in their assigned food preparation and food service areas. Oversee inmate workers engaged in a variety of activities in food production including: cooking, baking and serving food to the inmate population. Position responsibilities also include:

  • Work includes but not limited to, communicating verbally and in writing.
  • Input and comprehend computer data.
  • Secure and maintain equipment; read, comprehend and calculate menus.
  • Observe sanitary food handling practices.
  • Understand food nutritional values.
  • Inventory and rotate stock.
  • Complete CPR, Firearms, Unarmed Self-Defense training.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC06 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Franklin Correctional Center is located in Bunn, NC, Franklin County and is a medium custody male facility housing approximately 480 offenders. Special programs at this facility include; Enterprise Sign Plant, High School Equivalency, Employment Readiness, Adult Outreach Correspondence, Thinking for a Change, Father Accountability, Commercial Driving License, Business, Hospitality, Commercial Cleaning, Industrial Maintenance, Logistics & Distribution, Computer Application.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Education and Experience for a Trainee Appointment High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications ; Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
