MobilizeGreen seeks a detail-oriented Civil Engineer Intern for an 11-week, full-time summer position supporting the Eastern States Asset Management team of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Virginia. As a civil engineer intern in this role, you will conduct facility condition assessments and manage data within the BLM's Facility Asset Management System (FAMS).

 

During your assessments, you will visit various sites to evaluate the condition of facilities, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data records. You will collaborate closely with other civil engineers and asset management professionals to prepare detailed reports on facility conditions and necessary maintenance. Additionally, you will assist in developing strategies for facility improvements based on your assessment data, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations regarding facility management.

 

Through this position, you will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of facility management processes, providing a critical path forward for maintaining and improving BLM facilities.


The BLM DHA Internship program is a unique opportunity designed for current undergraduate, graduate, or PhD students to launch their natural and cultural resources careers. The intern will receive hands-on learning experience, mentorship, and coaching to complete mission-critical work while developing leadership, critical thinking, and strategic communication skills. This is a developmental program.

Position Duties:

  • Conduct facility condition assessments for various sites.
  • Manage data input and upkeep in the BLM's Facility Asset Management System (FAMS).
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of facility data records.
  • Collaborate with other civil engineers and asset management professionals.
  • Prepare detailed reports on facility conditions and necessary maintenance.
  • Assist in developing strategies for facility improvements based on assessment data.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding facility management.


Eligibility:

To be eligible for the internship], you must:

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Possess experience in facility inspection and data management.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Have the ability to learn efficiently and apply new skills effectively.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • An early-career professional with a strong interest in facility management.
  • Available to work full-time at the Virginia duty station.
  • A U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.


Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork.
  • Fieldwork may include site inspections, requiring travel and physical activity such as walking and climbing.
  • A mix of both office and on-field duties, with appropriate safety measures in place.
