The Occupational Therapist who directs, supervises, evaluates and provides occupational therapy services to clients accepted for care by RVNAhealth, Outpatient Services, as prescribed by the attending physician. The therapist is responsible for fulfilling the needs of RVNAhealth in the RVNAhealth Therapy Center. Yes, that makes sense. Time may be spent seeing patients in their homes under the In-Home Outpatient (IHOP) program or through the Therapy Center. Observing patients in their home environment can help facilitate and enhance their in-clinic therapy. The position facilitates the needs of multiple functions and requires a person who is adaptable and resourceful with very strong organizational skills.

Workflow / Process

• Comprehensively evaluate client's level of function and participation in the development of the total client care plan with client, family, and physician. • Administer appropriate treatment which may involve the application of physical agents and/or modalities, using equipment, moist packs, cold packs, electric stimulation, or ultrasound machines. • Ability to correctly assess and provide ongoing occupational therapy treatment with appropriate basis and understanding of need for treatment keeping outcomes in mind. • Able to meet clinic productivity and keep up with changing daily schedule. • Meet the needs of the clinic and patients. • Instruction of patient, family, and other agency health care personnel in the patient's treatment regime when indicated. • Provide proper supervision and oversight of COTAs and ensure proper communication and documentation. • Serve as a consultant to other health team personnel regarding occupational therapy for individual patients. • Attend staff meetings, join committees, and attend in-services as requested by the agency. • Ask for help when needed. • Maintain continuing education courses as mandated by the State of Connecticut. • Help supervise rehab support staff and techs. • Confidentiality is a vital component of this employee’s job function. • Good understanding of outpatient billing: i.e., CPT codes, and timely rules to ensure proper ethical billing. • Knowledge of regulatory procedures including but not limited to Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, and Medicare conditions of participation. • Is computer literate, utilizes EMR to its potential, able to document in EMR, entering information into the computer in a timely and accurate manner. Uses electronic means of communication effectively within agency policies and practices. • Accept and utilize supervision constructively, in order to enhance the quality of agency documentation and professional self-development. Provide feedback (both positive and negative) in an appropriate manner, focusing on performance improvement of RVNAhealth. • Demonstrate good attendance record and punctuality in accordance with HR policies. • Maintain Standard Precautions Infection control. • Establish respectful, positive working relationships with other employees and volunteers in the delivery of client services. • Participate in the total quality improvement process for both RVNAhealth, RVNAhealth Therapy center, and self, including mandatory meetings. Accept and utilize supervision constructively in order to enhance the quality of RVNAhealth Therapy Center documentation and professional self-development. • Ensure payment for care by meeting payor requirements and/or obtaining authorizations. • Complete quality documentation within required agency and/or regulatory timeframes. • Maintain clinical competency in all areas of the scope of practice. • Able to meet the needs of the agency for scheduling and staffing. • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor during business hours when patient’s are not scheduled.

Qualifications: • Graduate with a baccalaureate degree of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy approved by the American Medical Association Council of Medical Education in collaboration with the American Occupational Therapy Association. • Current license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Connecticut • At least two years Clinical practice as an Occupational Therapist and Home Health experience preferred. • Ability to adapt this knowledge and skill to a home setting. • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of home care and community health administration and practice in the home setting. • Ability to establish good working relationships with other professions. • Ability to collaborate effectively with community agencies. • Ability to teach and communicate goals to the home care team - in the home setting.
