Job Title: Legal Specialist Sr.

Position Location: Raleigh, NC. Must live in North Carolina. Hybrid role

Your Impact

As a Legal Specialist Sr., you'll have the opportunity to use your detail orientation and analytical abilities to analyze accounts based on collection laws and assign accounts for judgments. You'll also have the opportunity to use your strong communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate with attorneys and/or debtors, work with court personnel, and represent the department on special projects.

The Contributions You Can Anticipate Making

Reviewing accounts for eligibility of referral for legal action. Preparing and forwarding all loan documents to judgment attorney and maintaining records in Collections system. Handling small claims cases by scheduling hearings and appearing in court to obtain judgments against defendants and represent the Credit Union. Setting up payment arrangements for debtors who appear in small claims courts with a willingness to repay the debt. Handling special requests such as interrogatories and requests for production of documents, etc. Working with the Credit Union staff to resolve cases efficiently and effectively. Training junior teammates on new or existing procedures as pertaining to legal action. Testifying on the Credit Union's behalf as to the validity of documents presented in court. Managing vendor relationships. Acting as subject matter expert when procedures are modified due to regulation changes or efficiency gains. Participating in testing and provide relevant insight to assist with ensuring procedures are compliant.

Experience: Three years of consumer loan collection, loan servicing, or para-legal experience.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Related Associate's Degree preferred.
