The Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) is an intermediate care facility offering support to approximately 120 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KNI practices a person-centered philosophy to support our residents so they can have the quality of life they deserve by recognizing their individuality, honoring their choices, protecting and maintaining their health, helping to build and maintain their relationships with others, and making sure that they are included in every aspect of their lives; in their homes, in their jobs, and in the community.
KNI has 19 homes with direct support staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. KNI is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.
About the Position:
The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for identifying, monitoring, and preventing infectious disease across campus. This position involves frequent monitoring and inspection of each home in each building, medical treatment rooms, and health clinics to ensure cleanliness; antibiotic stewardship; ordering, administrating, and proper storage of routine vaccinations for residents and staff; adherence to policies and procedures related to infection control; collaboration with nursing services, program services, and medical providers; collaboration with outside entities such as KDHE and local hospitals; frequent monitoring of information published by the CDC, CMS, and KDHE; organizing quarterly IPC interdisciplinary meetings; monitoring and enforcing isolation and quarantine practices; and employee health practices. The Infection Control Nurse provides support to staff to ensure they understand current policy and procedure and remain equipped with materials to protect themselves and the people who live here.

Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with infection control and employee health in the ICF-IDD setting
  • Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Two years of teaching and leadership experience
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of Kansas
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements
  • Ability to take and pass a drug screen
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
