The Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs routine and specialized nuclear medicine procedures for patients of all ages. They aim to confirm or deny the necessity of required treatment using nuclear imaging techniques. The role requires independent judgment to adapt procedures for specific diagnostic outcomes and ensure the safety and comfort of patients during nuclear medicine examinations. They also prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, operate nuclear medicine imaging equipment, collaborate with the radiology team, maintain records of nuclear medicine procedures and patient information, and adhere to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures in a manner that ensures an accurate and complete examination
  • Exhibiting competency in performing diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy
  • Completing scheduling, ordering radiopharmaceutical and patient preparation guidelines
  • Maintaining quality care throughout the procedure practicing radiation protection
  • Maintaining working knowledge of equipment and procedures in order to function in multiple areas of the department
