Capstone Assistant (Staff and Student Wage)

The School of Data Science seeks an assistant to support the Masters Capstone program.
Masters students work in small groups to solve a real-world problem with real-world data. These problems are provided by partners in i ndustry, government, non- profi t sector and academia.
The assistant will support the sourcing of these projects up to the time of launch. We expect to launch 50 unique projects between August 2023 and February 2024.
The position will report to the Director of Research Development.
Specific tasks involved in this position include:
  • Performing research on companies and organizations in Cent r al V irginia that could be prospective capstone sponsors ; Emailing and calling past sponsors to re-engage them in the program
  • Managing a database of capstone applications, categorizing and forwarding to mentors for review; following up with applicants about incomplete applications
  • Scheduling info sessions and meetings for prospective sponsors
  • Coordinating with the Office of Sponsored Programs (Contract Negotiation team) about data use agreements and internal signatures
  • Scheduling/coordinating sponsor open house events and student matching process
  • Tracking expenses for ongoing projects and producing budget reports
Necessary Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Comfortable learning new systems like Huron, Workday , Qualtrics
Position Compensation: $28.00 Hourly
This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. For more information, refer to the Wage Employment link:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: Two years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Licensure: None. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
