BUSINESS MANAGER, URJ EISNER CAMP

Location : Hybrid (Remote from September to May; in-person at URJ Eisner Camp from June to August)

Salary Range : 73,000-78,000 plus competitive benefits package

THE ROLE

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Eisner Camp seeks a skilled Business Manager to help run a smart business for sustained growth and deepening of program impact. The Business Manager has two key elements to their portfolio: (1) business operations and budget strategy for Eisner Camp in Massachusetts and (2) supporting the business operations for additional URJ Camps and helping to improve and integrate business practices for the overall camping and immersives system. This is an operational role with a focus on strategic integration. The Business Manager will maintain successful daily business practices and usher in a new era of growth and integration for Eisner Camp.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Business Manager reports to the Camp Director and is responsible for the following:

EISNER CAMP: BUSINESS OPERATIONS

  • Responsible for financial management and business operations for Eisner Camp, including but not limited to oversight of

  • Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Budget Tracking

  • Supervision of Retreat Center Coordination & Registrar

  • Support of year-round retreats and summer operations.

  • Manage staff’s time and attendance requirements according to URJ payroll policies. Generate new employee and status-change paperwork and track employee, department, budget codes, and pay rates.

  • Oversee and execute insurance-related processes such as workers comp, camper insurance, vehicle, and general insurance needs, etc.

  • Directly manage the expense reimbursement process for year-round employees.

EISNER CAMP: BUSINESS STRATEGY

  • Oversee and improve business practices, operations, and impact at Eisner Camp. Ensure alignment with URJ financial policies and practices.

  • Work with Camp Director in implementing short- and long-term business plans.

  • Partner with camp director to create and manage the annual budgeting review process, quarterly projections, and year-round tracking of revenues against expenditures. Track in Adaptive (budgeting software), measure against big picture, flag threats and opportunities.

  • Produce accurate and timely weekly and monthly financial reports. Reports may include but are not limited to budget projections, development and grants, financial insights required by URJ central finance department and more.

  • Continuously evaluate and assess vendor relationships and ensure camp is getting best possible pricing (in partnership with Director and other Professional Staff, as needed and appropriate).

  • Manage a team and create a culture of accountability and shared sense of responsibility around employee engagement.

  • Oversee financial processes related to camp and youth program enrollment including but not limited to deposits, payments, refunds, special payment plans, grants, and scholarships, as well as credit card transactions in accordance with CampMinder and URJ systems.

CAMP & IMMERSIVES: BUSINESS STRATEGY

  • Help to streamline and improve business practices, operations, and impact in the URJ Camping & Immersives system. Collaborate with key stakeholders in the camping and business management teams to support this effort.

  • In time, support, manage, or oversee the business operations for additional URJ Camps.

  • Support URJ org-wide priorities.

WHO YOU ARE & KEYS TO SUCCESS (THE MUST-HAVES):

To be successful in this job, you excel in the following areas:

  • Business Acumen. Experience in developing business strategy. Track record of outstanding management of day-to-day operations, including production, human resources, and accounting processes. Experience in data analysis, databases, and information systems software. Proficiency in financial management software, budgeting, and payroll systems. Able to make sense of complex processes and make financial decisions to support priorities. Up-to-date knowledge of relevant industry trends.

  • Collaboration & Connection . Motivated leader who thrives on creating and sustaining a climate of inclusion, trust, and productivity. Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills. Team player focused on effectively and efficiently responding to the needs of colleagues and end-users. Hold yourself and others accountable for delivering on commitments on time and within budget. Willing to seek out and listen actively to the ideas of others from diverse backgrounds to agree on solutions that are best for the URJ. Educate yourself on the work of the URJ outside of your area.   • Self-Management. Detail-oriented and able to multi-task in a busy environment. Able to scope a project before starting to identify purpose, outcomes, roles, and processes in relation to shared outcomes. Follow through with tasks on the agreed timeline. Proactively communicate if you are going to miss a deadline. Identify tools and processes that will increase and support accountability. Utilize effective time management tools to help with setting and meeting deadlines. Ask for help and support as needed. Maintain regular, open, honest, and respectful communication.

  • REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Demonstrated experience prioritizing and executing Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQIA+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities. Willingness to seek out voices from diverse backgrounds to build ideas and make decisions. Prioritize outreach to multi-racial, marginalized communities. Plan and budget through a REDI lens using URJ resources.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, or related field; MBA preferred

  • 5-7 years of managerial or administrative experience preferred.

  • Ability to work in person at URJ Eisner Camp in Great Barrington, MA from June to August.

  • Occasional in-person meetings, as needed
