Specialist 3, Reverse Transfer/Next Step Associate

The Reverse Transfer/Next Step Associate is responsible for creating and implementing strategies to identify and promote students close to graduation. This work includes but is not limited to identifying, advising, and supporting students who are close to completing their degree programs but have not yet graduated. This role involves working closely with students, faculty, and administrative staff to remove barriers to graduation, ensuring that near completers receive the guidance and any resources such as grants, scholarships, tutoring or more that they need to achieve their academic goals. The Reverse Transfer/Next Step Associate will implement strategies to track, engage, and assist these students, ultimately contributing to higher graduation rates. Additionally, this position supports the Graduation Office by processing applications and assisting students who were previously denied graduation in completing their degree requirements. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Student Identification and Outreach: * Identify students who are near completers (e.g., those who have completed 75% or more of their degree requirements) using academic records and data analytics. * Conduct outreach campaigns to engage near completers, encourage them to return to their studies and provide information on available support services. Tracking and Monitoring: * Develop and maintain a tracking system to monitor the progress of near completers toward graduation. * Regularly review and update records to ensure accurate and timely reporting of student progress. * Secure student approval for degree completion and graduation. Program Development and Implementation: * Design and implement initiatives aimed at re-engaging near completers, including workshops, academic coaching, and mentorship programs. * Collaborate with academic departments to develop alternative pathways for students to complete their degrees, such as credit recovery, independent study, or online courses. Data Analysis and Reporting: * Analyze data related to near completers to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. * Prepare and present reports on near completer success rates and program effectiveness to senior leadership. Communication and Collaboration: * Maintain regular communication with near completers by providing updates, reminders, and encouragement throughout their final academic terms. * Collaborate with campus stakeholders to align efforts in supporting near completers and improving graduation rates. Advising and Support: * Provide personalized academic advising to near completers, assisting with course selection, degree planning, and overcoming obstacles to graduation. * Collaborate with faculty, financial aid, and other departments to resolve issues such as incomplete courses, financial holds, or other barriers that may prevent students from graduating. * Guide students toward completion by helping them clarify their academic goals, understand the requirements for SLCC degrees and certificates, and develop class schedules. This includes selecting and sequencing coursework appropriate to their program. Student Advocacy and Resource Coordination: * Act as an advocate for near completers, connecting them with campus resources such as tutoring, counseling, and career services. * Assist students in navigating institutional processes and policies related to graduation requirements. * Work with the National Student Clearinghouse to set up Banner student data submission that will identify students who qualify for reverse transfer with other Higher Institutions who participate with the National Student Clearinghouse. * Assist graduation office in reaching out to denied students and process graduation applications. * Work directly with various Higher Education Institutions to assure policies and procedures are followed while identifying student populations with specific criteria. * Other duties as assigned. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications * Associate of Science degree (or minimum of 60 completed semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university). * Four (4) years of direct, paid, full-time work experience. Trade off 1:1 in experience/education requirement. Part time experience may be considered on a prorated basis. Preferred Qualifications * Work experience in Higher Education. * Experience with Banner, DegreeWorks and Cognos knowledge. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Ability to identify, format, and transfer student data. * Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally. * Ability to create and maintain professional relationships. * Ability to organize, retrieve, manage, and present large amounts of informational details. * Knowledge of college catalog with understanding of academic requirements. * Knowledge of transfer processes and articulation. * Ability to use and/or experience with systems such as Banner, Degree Works and Cognos. * Ability to use and/or experience with productivity software including word processing and spreadsheets. * Demonstrate initiative and creativity to resolve conflicts and provide solutions. * Knowledge of college policies and procedures. * Knowledge of FERPA. * Knowledge of general enrollment procedures. * High attention to detail. * Ability to prioritize assignments and meet strict deadlines. * Understanding of academic advising theory and practice. * Knowledge of SLCC and community resources. * Ability to work well as a team player with minimal supervision. * Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. * Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
