Role Summary

The Business Development Lead will be engaged in identifying trends and developing new business that creates and nurtures opportunities and partnerships that will assist in achievement of the organization’s strategic goals. The Business Development Lead will identify trends and customer needs with the purpose of building a sales pipeline for short-, medium- and long-term growth.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sales strategies, client service and retention plans, using sales data to inform or update marketing strategies.
  • Conducting market research and identifying potential clients.
  • Cultivating strong relationships with new clients, while maintaining existing client relationships.
  • Working closely with staff across the organization to implement growth strategies.
  • Draft business plans, sales pitches, presentations, reference material, and other documents as required.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting pre-determined deadlines.
  • Identify new business opportunities and partners.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of management, staff, and clients.
  • Monitor and evaluate industry trends and customer drivers, and meet regularly with managers and stakeholders to discuss strategy
  • Other duties as assigned.

Role Requirements

  • BS required; MS, MBA or PhD preferred.
  • Experience: >10 years industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Self-assured executive engagements, both internal (Board and Officers) and external (Clients and Officials). Ability to communicate complex business and financial information to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to anticipate the need for change as well as successfully implement and promote acceptance of change. Data and technology knowledge with effective utilization within the organization.
  • Ability to analyze emerging trends, anticipate organizational needs, and develop strategies to meet them.
  • Exemplary leadership skills. Ability to foster teamwork and build relationships. Ability to flex as needed to adjust to a changing work environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Special Requirements

  • The person filling this position will spend approximately 90% in an office setting and 10% in the laboratory. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
  • Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators.
  • Ability to spend part of day sitting, standing and/or walking.

  • Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts with short notice.
