PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Under close supervision, assists airport full-time personnel in compliance with security and safety procedures associated with Air Carrier (airline) operations; coordinates as necessary with airport, airline, TSA and law enforcement personnel; performs customer-service and other assigned duties relating to airline passengers and the general public; performs related duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with TSA security requirements in accordance with Vero Beach Regional Airport Security Program.
  • Performs or assists with security procedures and coordinates with TSA or law enforcement personnel under guidance from Airport Security Coordinator and/or airport personnel.
  • Monitors safety and security of restricted areas and responds to security violations and potential security violations; coordinates with TSA and law enforcement as required.
  • Provides customer service to airport users; assists with passenger comfort; assists passenger entry/exit of terminal building; provides guidance and information.
  • Monitors airport terminal area, performs light clean-up and maintains cleanliness and orderliness of airport terminal area before and after Air Carrier operations.
  • Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of airport policies and procedures including applicable federal, state, and local safety and security regulations.
  • Knowledge of a variety of occupational hazards and safety practices related to passenger safety and facility cleanliness.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Ability to safely operate airport terminal security, safety, and ADA equipment.
  • Ability to use various office equipment including personal computers and smart phones.
  • Ability to perform light to medium manual tasks in all weather extremes.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and cheerful working relationships with those contacted during the course of work including the general public.
OTHER JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Exposure to potential physical harm, dangerous machinery, infectious disease, hazardous chemicals and extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy or bulky items occasionally up to 50 lbs, including up and down stairways without assistance.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment required to perform essential functions of the job.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
  • Office equipment including but not limited to calculators, smart phones, personal computers and two-way handheld radios; cleaning and janitorial equipment including hand mops, brooms, electric vacuum cleaners, and trash bins.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum high school diploma or GED with one year of customer service, marketing, or other general public outreach experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience at a commercial service airport a plus, but not required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Florida Driver's License. Current FBI Criminal History Records Check and TSA Security Threat Assessment, or able to successfully complete within 30 days of hire.
