SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST
Qualifications
? A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Clinical Speech and Audiology.
? A valid certificate to teach in the area of speech and language in the State of Pennsylvania.
? Any alternatives to the above qualifications as the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Responsibilities:
? To assess, develop and implement instructional programs for all school-aged students identified to receive speech and language.
Responsibilities:
• Evaluate and develop individualized educational programs for school-aged with speech and language disorders.
• Establish speech and language screen programs for the identification of school-aged persons with suspected speech and language needs.
• Conduct in-depth individual assessments of speech and language needs necessary for the development and evaluation of individualized educational program plans.
• Assist in the referral of pupils with speech and language needs to recognized agencies necessary to obtain diagnostic information for comprehensive educational planning.
• Counsel and assist parents/guardians of identified children with speech and language needs in preparing individualized educational programs and the available safeguards.
• Serve as a consultant to school personnel and administration in all educational matters pertaining to speech and language impaired school-aged persons.
• Participate, as assigned, in Rapid Hearing Screening Programs.
• Participate in kindergarten screening programs as assigned.
• Provide either direct or indirect instruction programs for students with suspected or confirmed speech and language problems.
• Maintain accurate data collection and documentation so as to fully evaluate and substantiate program and pupil progress.
• Comply with federal, state and local laws, standards, regulations and policies pertaining to the exceptional school-aged persons.
• Prepare daily and weekly schedules of instructional activities that support the needs of the children.
• Participate in planning sessions necessary for effective programming and material selection for speech and language school-aged persons.
• Comply with policies set forth by the Intermediate Unit pertaining to program operation.
• Participate in parent conferences required to prepare IEP's, attend the Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings as necessary and attend due process hearing as directed by the administration.
• Be responsible for preparing requisitions and inventories required for selecting and maintaining instructional equipment and materials.
• Maintain a continuing self-educational program designed to become acquainted with current research, practices and procedures so as to maintain the best instructional program for speech and language impaired school-aged persons.

Method of Evaluation
? Annual evaluations made by the Director of Special Education or their designee in accordance with provisions established by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit #29 Evaluation Process for Professional Employees.

Terms of Employment:
? Ten (10) month year. Salary and work year established by a negotiated agreement between the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors and the Teachers' Bargaining Unit.

This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done mainly indoors but could include outside tasks.
