Position Highlights: 9A Medical-Surgical Unit
- Number of beds on unit: 24 private beds
- Patient population: Medical-surgical, serving patients above 17 years of age for illness, surgery, and testing for various diagnoses
- Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:5 (occasionally 1:6)
- Department culture and resources: Fast-paced unit with medically complex patients, emphasizing teamwork and communication
- Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Nursing assessments, medication administration, collaboration with multiple disciplines, hands-on skills such as IV insertion, foley insertion, tracheostomy care, and more
When unit is full, LPN will work with RNs with highest acuity or will be paired with an RN who has a heavy patient load. LPN tasks include medication administration, dressing changes, trach care, communicating with physicians, and reinforcing education and discharge instructions.
