Job Description
  • The Process Metallurgist will oversee and optimize the heat-treating processes to ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency
  • This role involves working closely with the production team, analyzing metallurgical properties, and developing new heat treatment processes to meet the company's production goals and customer specifications
  • Develop and maintain heat-treating process including vacuum hardening of tool steels, Neutral hardening, case hardening & nitriding, microstructures, physical properties of steels, troubleshooting of heat-treating processes
  • Design, implement, and optimize heat-treating processes for various metal alloys
  • Provide technical guidance and support to production staff and other departments
  • Train personnel on metallurgical principles, heat treatment processes, and quality standards
  • Conduct metallurgical analysis of heat-treated products to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specification
  • Develop and oversee inspection and testing procedures for heat-treated material
  • Investigate and resolve metallurgical issues, non-conformances, and customer complaint
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, including metallurgical evaluations, process documentation, and failure analysis
  • Maintain accurate records of process parameters, test results, and product specifications
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, product quality, and environmental sustainability
  • Stay current with advancements in metallurgical science and heat treatment technologies

The Successful Applicant
  • Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, Material Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a metallurgical or materials science role, preferably with a heat-treating or manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrate experience with various heat treatment processes and metallurgical analysis techniques
  • Strong understanding of metallurgical principles and heat treatment processes
  • Proficiency in using metallurgical analysis tools and equipment (e.g., microscopes, hardness testers, optical spectrometers,)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills (e.g. Pareto Analysis, Capability, 8D& 5-Why methodology)
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge of PPAP, Control Plans, PFMEAs
