Role Description
The Development Test team is part of the Engineering team within the Technology organization at Form Energy. This team is instrumental in providing battery testing platforms and services across all of Form's facilities and is invaluable in delivering and scaling our technology.
Form Energy is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer for our Test Infrastructure team in Somerville, MA. Reporting to the Manager of Test Infrastructure (MA), this role works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team while leading complex mechanical development efforts supporting our fleet of battery test systems utilized by Form's technology teams. You will interface with partner teams across the organization to understand complex problems and deliver robust solutions, contributing to the development and sustainment of our rapidly expanding test capabilities.

What you'll do:

  • Own the design, build, and deployment of lab equipment for testing large numbers of battery cells
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers to take proofs of concept and refine them for scale-up
  • Partner with other engineers to develop scalable documentation and change management systems
  • Provide leadership and management to other MEs and technical leadership and mentorship for the rest of the team
  • Act as a primary resource for internal customer teams to help define requirements for critical new lab functionality
  • Train technicians and other users on new lab equipment and processes
  • Be a champion for safety in the development of new equipment and processes
What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field with 8+ years of industry experience in electromechanical systems
  • Key involvement in pioneering hands-on technical projects as both an individual contributor and a project lead. Activities including designing, drafting, and manufacturing components & assemblies; communicating with stakeholders; ensuring the teams have resources to meet objectives
  • Experience standardizing and maintaining fleets of electromechanical systems
  • Experience building effective and scalable and empowering processes for the following activities: system design; design documentation; manufacturing documentation; operations documentation; design reviews; engineering change management; safety review
  • Leadership and mentoring skills with well-developed communication, collaboration, and engagement skills working with a variety of cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Familiarity with adjacent engineering disciplines is a bonus i.e., Electrical, Software Engineering, etc.
  • A willingness to learn and help others, a natural curiosity, and a desire to make an impact
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment
